Dynamic Sealing Elements
|
|
|
|
|
The special properties of Carbon materials have enabled them to give excellent results when used as dynamic sealing elements.
Some of these properties are:
- High thermal resistance
- High corrosion resistance
- Outstanding resistance to thermal shock
- Low thermal expansion
- Good thermal conductivity
- Low deformation up to extreme temperatures
- Low neutron absorption cross-section
Carbon material can be used where any of the following special operating conditions occur:
- Operating temperatures like outside the permissible limits for lubrications oils or greases.
- The medium to be sealed must not be contaminated by lubricants oils or greases.
- Seals are subjected to solvents or fluids lacking adequate lubricating properties.
- The corrosion resistance of other materials is inadequate.
Dynamic Carbon sealing elements can be classified by their field of use as follows:
- Sealing rings
- Steam joint rings
- Ball valve seats
- Piston and guide rings
- Piston rod seals
- Packing rings
- Turbine rings
- Labyrinth rings
- Metal-sleeved rings
- Vanes
- Metering rings.
