Carbon Ring For Steam Joint
Steam joint rings are employed for sealing steam, hot water or heating oils feeds to rotating cylinders or drums. At the same time, as well as sealing, these rings compensate for any oscillations, swinging or vibration. Using a sealing ring with a concave or convex sealing face held against the counterface by spring pressure usually effects compensation. Their function is similar to that of normal sealing rings. Sometimes a steam joint can serve also as a bearing and may then be required to run dry. For low pressures plain unimpregnated grades are customary and at higher pressers impregnated grades may be recommended.
